Identification Comes Before Any Structural Work
Every responsible demolition program begins with a comprehensive hazardous materials survey, conducted by certified specialists before any structural planning is finalized. This survey identifies not just the presence of hazardous materials, but their location, condition, and the specific abatement approach each requires — because asbestos in stable, encapsulated form requires different handling than friable, deteriorating material.
This upfront identification directly shapes the demolition sequence. Abatement of hazardous materials must be completed and verified before mechanical demolition begins in affected areas, meaning hazmat surveys aren't just a compliance checkbox — they're a critical input into project scheduling and cost estimation.
Certified Handling and Disposal
Once identified, hazardous materials require certified removal crews using appropriate containment, PPE, and air monitoring throughout the process. Removed material is documented and transported to certified disposal facilities, with chain-of-custody records maintained from removal through final disposal — protecting both the client and the demolition contractor from future liability.
This rigor extends to radioactive scrap screening as well. Every incoming ferrous load at our facilities passes through radiation detection, catching the rare but serious cases of orphaned radioactive sources that occasionally end up in scrap streams.
